Detoxification through Kriya
According to both Hatha Yoga and Ayurveda there are three humours called Tridoṣa in our body: Vāta (wind), Pitta (bile) and Kapha (mucus). An imbalance in the Doṣa will result in illness. Kriyās are used before Prāṇāyāma and other higher Yoga practices in order to purify the body of toxins and to ensure safe and successful progression along the path of total positive health. In Hatha Yoga there are six particular practices which were specifically designed for this purpose. They are called Ṣaṭkarma. Ṣaṭ is ‘six’, Karma is ‘action’.
